Michael Gericke and Emily Oberman of the design agency Pentagram have just designed the new logo for 21st Century Fox, a new brand of 20th Century Fox that represents the media and entertainment divisions such as the cable and broadcasting networks.
Here’s what Pentagram say about the newly designed logo “The 21st Century Fox logo features a pair of sweeping searchlights that suggest entertainment, broadcasting and limitless possibilities, within a circle shape inspired by a lens. Iconic and distinctive, the symbol is accompanied by a wordmark set in strong, stacked lettering that is derived from the typographic pedestal of the Twentieth Century Fox logo and Fox Broadcasting’s wordmark.”
Chief executive, Rupert Murdoch says ‘21st Century Fox is a name that draws upon the rich creative heritage of our film studio, while also speaking to the innovation and dynamism that define all of our global media and entertainment businesses and will guide us into the future.’

What do you think?
Ok, it is essentially a simplified, modernised version of the classic 20th Century Fox logo but does it lack the heart and soul and the strong powerful presence of the original? There are certainly a lot of mixed opinions particularly regarding the typography and the colour. I originally disliked the type but it later grew on me after I saw the black and white version of the logo. I’m still unsure about the choice of colours as I feel they lack the warmth and familiarity of the classic logo. What do you think about the logo, anyone love it?
